Double feature: Scary Movie (2000) + Scary Movie (2026)
ENG + CZ subtitles
“Unrestrained by taste, inhibitions or political correctness, it boldly goes where no one in the mainstream has gone before.” That is how a review at the time described the unexpected audience hit Scary Movie, which burst onto cinema screens in July 2000. The story of a quiet American small town terrorized by a killer in a famous Halloween mask and black costume mercilessly skewered horror clichés and shamelessly plundered the narratives of teen comedies. The Blair Witch Project, Halloween, The Sixth Sense or The Matrix: the brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans threw these and other classics into a screenwriting blender, and the result, full of bizarre and deliberately moronic humor, made Scary Movie a globally successful brand.
In 2013, when Scary Movie 5 came out, however, it seemed that the well had run dry. It took a long thirteen years to get a sequel that spiritually returns to the roots of the series. Back are the characters we know well, the crude jokes and genuine cinematic blasphemy. As the distributor says of the filmmakers: “They dove with enormous appetite into reboots, remakes, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, horror films both arty and trashy, ghost stories and slashers. They kidnapped them, abused them, gutted them and released them back into the wild, that is, onto the movie screen. The result is a film that crosses all red lines and considers politically correct humor its greatest enemy.”
Come to Kasárna Karlín and enjoy this double feature of cinematic anarchy, rowdy humor and sequences so chillingly, horrifyingly cringeworthy that they’re sure to tickle more than a few funny bones.
