The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson — USA — 2014 — 100 minutes — English with Czech subtitles
Monsieur Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) is a legendary concierge. In the timeless space between two world wars, in a godforsaken country where not much works as it should, the luxurious Grand Budapest Hotel is an oasis of reliability — embodied by this very head of staff. M. Gustave fulfills his guests’ wishes before they are even spoken and, more often than not, loves them — quite literally — with selfless devotion. When one such grateful client leaves him an extraordinarily valuable painting in her will and then promptly passes away (not quite voluntarily), he suddenly finds himself fabulously wealthy — and also the target of angry heirs, a hired assassin, and the local police. Helping him navigate this mess: his personal charm and a young lobby boy named Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), whom Gustave is grooming as his successor.
