Jeff ​“The Dude” Lebows­ki is the lazi­est guy in greater Los Ange­les. He loves bowl­ing, White Rus­sians, mar­i­jua­na, and his rug. Due to a case of mis­tak­en iden­ti­ty, he’s con­fused with a mil­lion­aire who shares his name — and through a series of absurd coin­ci­dences, The Dude becomes the tar­get of a black­mail scheme. Instead of being com­pen­sat­ed for his soiled rug, he ends up tasked with deliv­er­ing ran­som mon­ey for the rich Lebowski’s spoiled daugh­ter, accom­pa­nied by his hope­less bud­dies. Things might have gone smooth­ly, if not for his friend Wal­ter (John Good­man), who decides to pock­et the ran­som mon­ey — regard­less of the consequences.
