Summer cinema— Four rooms
SUMMER CINEMA IN THE KASÁRNA COURTYARD IS BACK!
Four Rooms
Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez — USA — 1995 — 98 minutes — ENG + CZ subtitles
The anthology film Four Rooms is the work of four directors who have recently become some of the most prominent figures in American independent cinema. The filmmakers created four episodic stories, all set on New Year’s Eve in different rooms of a Los Angeles hotel. Each story (and each room) involves Ted, a newly hired bellhop. With inevitable and uncompromising fate, the young man becomes a key participant in various strange and often bizarre events. Each director wrote the script for their own segment and naturally applied their unique artistic style during production. The result is a highly eclectic film, in which different styles and genres alternate without much cohesive effect. The segment by Robert Rodriguez stands out with its cinematic wit and inventiveness. However, due to its unclear and inconsistent concept from the beginning, not even a cast full of well-known and famous actors can artistically redeem the film.
