Summer cinema— Amélie
SUMMER CINEMA IN THE KASÁRNA COURTYARD IS BACK!
Amélie from Montmartre
Jean-Pierre Jeunet — France — 2001 — 117 minutes — French + CZ subtitles
Amélie lives in the Paris neighborhood of Montmartre, a little world of its own. She works as a waitress in a local bistro, shops at the neighborhood greengrocer’s, and greets her neighbors as if she were in a small town. Nothing extraordinary has ever happened in her life — except for her mother’s bizarre death, which her father still mourns. Amélie might have remained resigned to her quiet, solitary existence, had she not one day discovered a hidden treasure in her apartment: an old box filled with childhood mementos of a former tenant. Not only does she decide to track down and return the box to its owner, but she also realizes she has the power to quietly improve the lives of those around her. Then one day, she spots a man who collects discarded photo booth portraits left behind by strangers in train stations — and Amélie falls in love. But it will take time before she finally meets Nino and allows him to unravel the clues she’s left in her mysterious messages.
