When you haven’t slept for six months, the world starts to feel like one long, wak­ing dream. Every­thing around you becomes a flawed pho­to­copy of itself. You go to work, watch TV, and are grate­ful for the rare moments when you black out and escape real­i­ty. There aren’t many peo­ple who under­stand this state, but a young, suc­cess­ful office work­er who calls him­self Jack is one of them. He has a decent job, makes good mon­ey — but suf­fers from the worst form of insom­nia. On a busi­ness trip, Jack meets Tyler Dur­den, who offers him a place to stay — on one con­di­tion: Jack has to hit him as hard as he can. This raw ​“exchange of ideas” appeals to them both, and soon the first Fight Club is born. A secret space where dis­il­lu­sioned young men can set aside their frus­tra­tions and, for a few min­utes, become animals.
