Under the direc­tion of Christo­pher Nolan, Chris­t­ian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne, who, in the guise of the caped cru­sad­er Bat­man, con­tin­ues his fight against crime in Gotham City. This time, his most dan­ger­ous adver­sary is the crime king­pin known as the Jok­er. This action-packed fan­ta­sy adven­ture fol­lows Bat­man Begins, with Bale once again por­tray­ing Batman/​Bruce Wayne in his relent­less bat­tle against crime. Team­ing up with Gotham Police Lieu­tenant James Gor­don, Wayne hunts the Jok­er, infa­mous for leav­ing a call­ing card — a jok­er play­ing card — at the scene of his crimes. The scarred trick­ster intends to prove to Bat­man that the words ​“Gotham” and ​“peace” can nev­er coex­ist. Mean­while, Sal Maroni steps into the pow­er vac­u­um left by the city’s for­mer mafia boss, tak­ing con­trol of most of Gotham’s gangs. A new dis­trict attor­ney, Har­vey Dent, also ris­es to promi­nence — ready to reshuf­fle the deck of cards (jok­er includ­ed) in a way that could change Gotham forever.
