Mod­ern Tokyo in all its urban anonymi­ty: aggres­sive, pul­sat­ing, indif­fer­ent, fas­ci­nat­ing, enter­tain­ing, and yet dis­tant… For­eign — at least for two Amer­i­cans who hap­pen to find them­selves there at the same time, in the same hotel. Bob, an actor, has come to Tokyo to shoot a whisky com­mer­cial, while the much younger Char­lotte is accom­pa­ny­ing her pho­tog­ra­ph­er hus­band. Both feel adrift — alien to the lan­guage, the cul­ture, and their sur­round­ings; both have too much time on their hands — and both suf­fer from insom­nia. A chance encounter, a few shared days, and a feel­ing of close­ness help them bridge their lone­li­ness in this unfa­mil­iar place — and per­haps dis­cov­er some­thing more.
