New York cop John McClane arrives in Los Ange­les to vis­it his wife, who is attend­ing a Christ­mas par­ty in the unfin­ished Nakato­mi build­ing. But the cel­e­bra­tion is vio­lent­ly inter­rupt­ed when Ger­man ter­ror­ist Hans Gru­ber and his team storm the build­ing and take all the guests hostage — includ­ing McClane’s wife. Only McClane man­ages to escape via a fire stair­well. The ter­ror­ists are not after the release of impris­oned com­rades, as they claim, but instead their hack­er is work­ing to crack open the Nakato­mi vault, which holds $640 mil­lion. McClane is the only one who can stop them. The film was nom­i­nat­ed for sev­er­al tech­ni­cal Oscars and launched Bruce Willis into stardom.
