Voxpot Cinema: The Big Short
Join us for the launch of a series of summer film evenings that pair great films with discussions on topics that still resonate today. Our first screening will be The Big Short, an acclaimed drama inspired by true events surrounding the 2008 financial crisis. With wit, dark humor, and a star-studded cast, it shows how one of the greatest economic disasters in modern history came about — and why we’re still feeling its consequences today.
7:30 PM – Opening discussion
Before the screening, we’ll offer a short discussion to place the film in a broader context. It will be moderated by Matěj Schneider, an editor at Voxpot and host of the podcasts Redneck, Redneck & Beneš, and Prompt, as well as the American Idiot newsletter. Together we’ll look at what the story of the financial crisis tells us about today’s economy, politics, and the United States. The film screening will follow the discussion.
