Voxpot Cinema: Io Capitano

Come join us for anoth­er Vox­pot sum­mer film evening, which con­nects con­tem­po­rary films with debates on top­ics shap­ing today’s world.

This time we’ll be screen­ing the film I, Cap­tain (Io Cap­i­tano) by direc­tor Mat­teo Gar­rone. The sto­ry of two Sene­galese teenagers who set out on a dan­ger­ous jour­ney to Europe offers a unique per­spec­tive on migra­tion through the eyes of those who actu­al­ly live it.

7:00 PM – Open­ing debate
Before the screen­ing, we’ll hold a debate on migra­tion in Europe today. It will be mod­er­at­ed by Jolana Humpálová – deputy edi­tor-in-chief of Vox­pot, reporter, and author of the pod­cast Puls and the newslet­ter Yal­la. Togeth­er with Vox­pot reporter Fil­ip Brych­ta and addi­tion­al guests, we’ll look at what the cur­rent migra­tion sit­u­a­tion looks like, the jour­neys of peo­ple com­ing to Europe, the obsta­cles they face along the way, and the poli­cies and mea­sures Euro­pean coun­tries have adopt­ed in recent years.
